How to Visit New Orleans With Kids on a Budget

New Orleans is a wonderful place for both adults and kids. One of the best aspects of big cities is just how much there is for everyone. Regardless of age or income, there are tons of ways to make the most out of your trip to New Orleans, especially if you have little ones to entertain on a budget.

There’s a ton of scenery to take in when you get to New Orleans. From the huge flea markets in the French Market District, to leisurely strolls along the Mississippi river. You can definitely pay for certain experiences (as well as some of the amazing flea market goods you’re bound to come across), but don’t forget to breath and enjoy the scenery included free with your visit. Don’t forget to stop by the New Orleans Botanical Gardens (free to the public!).

When you’re ready to enjoy even more of the city with your kids, consider stopping by the Louisiana Children’s Museum, or the New Orleans Museum of Art. There are tons of reasonably priced Museums and Aquariums that your kids are bound to enjoy.

One of the best and easiest ways to save some money on food during these outings is to bring along your own snacks. This way, you aren’t tempted to spend a lot of money by popping into a restaurant every time you get peckish. Of course, if you’re in Louisiana, you’re going to want to enjoy the cuisine at some point. For families, your best bet would be the restaurant’s on Decatur Street, as they are generally more accommodating for larger families. For a quick snack, make sure you stop by New Orleans’ famous Café du Monde for some beignets.

As far as living arrangements go, consider getting a hotel outside of New Orleans’ french quarter. You can generally find accommodations at a cheaper rate by doing so. Also be sure to check out Airbnb for great deals. As far as planning your visit, consider visiting at a time of year that’s not particularly busy due to a holiday. This may end up saving you a ton of money on flight fares, hotels, car rentals, etc.

Perhaps most importantly, have fun and take lots of pictures! New Orleans is a vast city with a rich history and tons of attractions. With a little bit of savvy planning, you can make the most of your trip without breaking the bank!
