Oreo Churros

We love recipe combinations, especially when they’re dessert combos, which is why our heads nearly exploded when we saw that PopSugar had found a way to make OREO CHURROS! That’s right, it’s the delicious sandwich cookies of your childhood mixed with the fried cakey goodness you get at fairs and theme parks… together! And PopSugar didn’t just take ordinary churro dough and throw some cookie crumbles in it, they actually took the time to develop a new recipe that took the best parts of both treats and merged them to make one mega treat!

But how easily can you knock these out at home, you ask? Well you do need to fry them, so it’s probably not a kid-safe activity. However, if you know your way around the kitchen, this mashup is no harder than making ordinary homemade donuts, except the end result is way fancier! You start by separating the oreos and removing the creme filling (but save it!). Blend those up in a food processor, and then mix them with flour and cinnamon to make a dry ingredients bowl. Pour in your wet ingredients (like eggs, vanilla, brown sugar, etc…) and make mix to make a dough.

Now comes the creative part. PopSugar calls for you to put the dough in a pastry bag and pipe it into a snail roll, but you can use any icing tip you want and make interesting shapes that strike your fancy, like rosettes or diamond patterns. Once you have about 12 pieces, freeze them to preserve the shape and start heating that oil. Fry the dough in small batches and transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to catch excess oil. Toss them in cinnamon and sugar, and YUM! These can come with an added bonus if you want – blend the creme filling with whipped cream to get a fluffy dipping sauce for your fresh oreo churros! That’s an idea we can get behind!
