Dalai Lama celebrates 81 Years — In This Lifetime

His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, celebrated his 81st birthday on July 6th. However as the 14th and current Dalai Lama, it is more accurate to say, his 81st birthday in this lifetime.

Dating back to 1391, the Dalai Lama is believed to be the reincarnation of the same spiritual line over many many generations. The Dalai Lama is the highest spiritual and policatial leader in Tibetan Buddhism, and taking into account past lives, would actually be 626 years old. There would certainly be a lot of wisdom to be gained in that time.

Traditionally the Dalai Lama as a revered religious figure would oversee the Tibetan government in the city of Lhasa. However in 1959 China overtook Tibet and the Dalai Lama and exiled government were forced to flee to India. However the Dalai Lama has traveled the world, meeting world leaders and celebrities alike and continuing to advocate for the people and country he has been exiled from.
