Would You Take A Drone To Work?

I don’t know about you, but I was promised a flying car in the future and I’m pretty bummed out that it never actually happened. And though Elon Musk has explained why it would be a terrible idea, Link: https://futurism.com/5-elon-musk-flying-cars-are-definitely-not-the-future-of-transport/ a girl can dream that one day I’ll get to ride in my very own air taxi, right?

Well the wait might be over soon, because apparently Dubai is jockeying for the right to claim they were the first city to have flying taxis! The Dubai Road and Transit Authority signed an agreement recently with Volocopter, a German start-up that promises to develop an unpiloted 18-rotor craft that could carry two people to the destination of their choice!

But that’s not the only robo-aircraft the notoriously wealthy Middle Eastern city is testing. They’ve also looked at the Chinese Ehang 184, which only holds a single person.

It may sound like science fiction, but Dubai isn’t the only place where this dream is quickly being realized. Uber has former NASA technologist Mark Moore working to develop aircraft for them, and the French company Airbus will be testing its own air taxi at the end of this year.

The good news is that each of these companies is looking into powering their crafts with green technology, which will make them quieter in addition to being more eco-friendly. But don’t get too excited; there’s a lot of red tape associated with air travel that might make these air taxis stall before they ever take off!
