The Trick to Being Happy NOW!

According to his website, James Altucher is an entrepreneur and investor. He is also the author of the Wall Street Journal bestselling book “Choose Yourself.”

Altucher has an award winning podcast in addition to his website, and in both he creates inspirational messages and advice for those who are looking to leave the rat race and jump into business ownership.

In one of his most recent posts, he shares information on the Magic Trick to being happy now, instead of waiting for your ship to come in.

He shares with readers how low he sank emotionally, knowing that he was going to lose his business and facing an IRS investigation. The hours and hard work he had put in had  not paid off in the end. Instead of spending time in the present with family and friends, he had sank himself into his business and lost everything. He gave up the magical moments in the present reaching for a future that never materialized.

The magical moments only exist in the present and, once they are gone, will never happen again. We miss those moments by focusing on the past or seeking the future and let the present slowly slip away.

Magic and Abundance only exist in the here and now because the past and future don’t.

His message is that he doesn’t mean to live only for the moment because everyone has responsibilities. You have to DO those things and then be grateful. He states that you must find five things that you are grateful for and list them. When your mind starts to wander, bring it back to your list. Or create a new one as the list will always change. The past lies. The future won’t come true. The abundance and magic are only here and now.

The Magic Trick

If you always bring yourself back to that present moment, the future will take care of itself. The abundance will grow every time you bring yourself back to the present and count the things you are grateful for.

10 Ways to Brighten Someone’s Day Using Only Words

When you are having a bad day, it seems like nothing will make it better. You get to the point that you want to go home and hide your head under the covers until the day is over.

But then, something great happens… someone comes by and says one encouraging thing, and suddenly your day is looking brighter. They probably had no idea how that one positive comment changed your entire outlook.

The way to really lift someone’s spirits is through a simple, truthful compliment. We are sure you are imagining someone right now who you love or appreciate- so you should let them know.

Below are 10 ways that you can bring joy to someone’s day with honest and loving words.

I appreciate you for _____. Everyone wants to know that they are appreciated for the work they do, the person they are, or the things they say.

I love the music you play in the morning, you have great taste! We all want to think that others “get” our taste, and music is so individualistic that to love our music, you must love us as well.

Where did you get that lipstick? I Love It! It is said that imitation is the highest form of flattery. So flatter with an amazing compliment.

I am so proud of you for____. Be specific. Let them know what it is about them that you are proud of. We are all seeking validation for the things we do.

Your smile makes my day! Knowing that a simple smile can impact someone will encourage that person to smile even more, especially when around you. This compliment also makes a person feel beautiful on the inside and out.

I have to get your ____ recipe. It was incredible! A compliment on something that has nothing to do with work gets extra kudos! Imagine the pride when someone wants to bring the experience of your cooking home to their family.

I wish I had your creativity! That person that always has the cutest projects, the best ideas, and the most ingenious ideas is secretly insecure about their work. Just because they seem to have it all together, knowing someone else sees the amazing things they are doing will allow them to go the extra mile instead of pulling back on the reins.

What perfume are you wearing? It smells so good! What a confidence booster!

I can’t wait to introduce you to my family. They are going to LOVE you! That you think someone is incredible enough to bring into your personal world is the ultimate statement of acceptance. This tells them you value them enough to make them a part of your world.

Thank You! Gratitude is sometimes more meaningful than adoration. If someone takes the extra step to do something for you, whether it be as simple as holding the door for you when your hands are full, or surprising you with lunch when you are feeling down, expressing thanks makes it all worthwhile!

NICU Nurse Takes Job to Whole New Level

Giving birth to a premature baby is something no expectant parent intends or plans for. What is supposed to be one of the most joyous moments of the whole pregnancy journey becomes one of fear and anxiety as parents watch their newborn baby fight for it’s life. Premature babies often spend weeks in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), and the thought of leaving them there often deters parents from going home from the hospital for days at a time. The process is exhausting and draining, both for parents and for their babies.

Chris and Michelle Korres were facing that very process when their son Benjamin was born two months early. After spending a solid week in the hospital with him, the two new parents reluctantly took a night off to get a good night’s sleep at home. When they returned, however, they found somethings brightly colored hanging from his IV pole. Upon closer inspection, Michelle burst into tears! Someone had created Benjamin a tiny blue cape with a big red B on it, and left it on his IV with a note that read, “To our little Superhero, love Stephanie T.”!

It turns out that “Stephanie T.” is actually Stephanie Treherne, a NICU nurse who knows just how hard the first weeks of a premature baby’s life can be. Though she had never met Michelle or Chris, she knew Benjamin from her time on staff and thought it deserved the cape. “It represents exactly how we see the babies. These babies are super strong. They fight through so much. They’re just little superheroes.” The Korreses were overwhelmed by the simple gesture of kindness and faith in their son, especially since it’s clear the cape was handmade just for Benjamin! Nurses like Stephanie make the hard journey through the NICU just a little easier with their kindness, compassion, and willingness to go the extra mile for parents and their babies!

Diner Waiter Surprised by Generous Patron

Ben Millar hasn’t been home to Northern Ireland in two years. He works as a waiter in a restaurant in Houston, Texas, and can’t afford to make it back to see his family very often, especially since his girlfriend Taryn is pregnant. However, Ben stays positive about the situation, and is even able to joke with his customers about it. This is what happen when Millar waited on a man identified only as Jeffery, who said that he had been to Ireland many times with his family. “I jokingly said, ‘I wish I could go back that often to see my family,” Millar explained. “I thought nothing of it, and we all joked after. The night went on, and I proceeded to give good service and talk to them.”

Once Jeffery and his family had left, Millar picked up their check and was astonished at what he saw. On a bill that totaled $182.87, Jeffery had tipped him $750! He also wrote Millar a note, “Hopefully, this can get you back to Ireland for the holidays.” Millar’s initial reaction, of course, was, “Holy s***!”

Millar says he will indeed use this money to go see his family soon, though it will be after the holidays. The couple’s son, already named Killian, is due in January, and he wants to bring them both with him to Belfast. He also wants a way to reach out to Jeffery to let him know just how much he appreciates his kindness. Taryn posted a photo of the tip on Facebook with the caption, “Thought I would share it to show everyone that’s there is not only hate out there. Truly blessed.” We wish this young family happy holidays and safe travel!

4-Year-Old Honors Late Mother By Wearing Her Wedding Dress In Beautiful Photo Shoot

Losing a loved one is never easy, and losing a parent is particularly difficult.

Little Nora Davis, a 4-year-old from North Carolina, may only have a few memories of her mother as she grows up, but thanks to a dying wish and idea of her mother, Amber Davis, she’ll have some understanding of how much her mother loved her.

Amber Davis was diagnosed with a rare type of cervical cancer only a couple years after having Nora. Though Amber went through radiation and chemotherapy, she ultimately lost her battle with the cancer and passed away at the age of 27. Before passing, however, she had the idea of doing a photoshoot of Nora in her wedding dress. Amber’s husband and Nora’s father, Derek Davis, dressed his daughter in Amber’s wedding dress, wedding band, and diamond earrings and they headed to the exact same wedding venue where the couple got married years prior.

Photographer Heidi Spillane says the shoot was a beautiful way to pay tribute to the bond that mothers and daughters share, even after death. “She saw it as a way for Nora to remember her Mama once she passed away,” says Spillane. “She wanted me to promise I would do it when she was gone.”

According to Spillane, it wasn’t a sad day. It was emotional, but enjoyable, and Nora loved every moment. “She was beaming with pride in her mommy’s dress,” says Spillane. “She loved every minute of it. She would look at the picture of her mom standing in the same spot and touch the dress. It was a really special thing to witness.”
