Police Cars Go Pink In Honor Of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

When you’re struggling through a particularly tough patch in life, having the support of those around you can make all the difference. No one understands this more than those who have battled cancer. Having friends and family around you to support you emotionally and be there to hold your hand through the tough times can be essential to helping people fight the disease.

The police in Salem, Oregon are taking support for cancer survivors and sufferers one step further by showing support citywide.

October 1st marked the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness month, which claims over 40,000 lives every year, and the Salem Police Department marked the beginning of this month with a new pink car.

“We are honored to roll out a pink patrol vehicle on October 1,” said Deputy Chief Steve Bellshaw of the Salem Police Department. “We want to show our support for all survivors and the cause of curing breast cancer.”

Following suit, the Portland Police Department has paired up with Susan G. Komen Oregon and SW Washington to roll out pink accessories for their officers. Portland police officers will be donning pink hats, undershirts, socks, shoelaces, and patches to show their support for raising awareness for breast cancer.

They will also be carrying informational cards with them to pass out to citizens to create an open dialogue about the issue and stressing the importance of early detection.

London Police Officer Walks Up To Dancing Pig And Challenges Him To An Epic Dance Off

Who doesn’t love a good dance battle? Come on, there have even been huge studio films made in honor of the dance battle. Step Up, You Got Serve, Stomp the Yard, Save the Last Dance? Well move over Channing Tatum, there’s a new dancing cutie in town and his name is Percy the Pig.

Last week, Kingston Police in London participated in Marks and Spencer’s 24-hour dance-a-thon to support the Macmillan Cancer charity. Not one to turn his back on the dance floor, Officer Dan Graham stepped up against one talented pig. Don’t worry though, Officer Graham totally pop-locked, cha-cha’d and moonwalked to victory!

Kingston Police posted the video on Facebook and Twitter with the caption, “Couple of pigs having a dance off.” Don’t worry, they didn’t mean anything insulting by it, clarifying that to them PIGS stands for Pride Integrity and Guts! People couldn’t get enough! The video has been viewed over 500K times and when you see it, you know why!
